Loved the phrase "a hug from God" being associated with a sudden gust of wind and the sun. - beautiful.

I have a friend who is not happy with the physical body they were put in here on earth, and your phrase concerning the plants' temporary state of where they are at made me think how this earth life is actually just the seedling stage of the great smooth sumac. We might be small and imperfect here - but our full stages of growth are not yet known.

Thanks for this post 🖤

I love that! Comparing our state now to the seedling. I think you're right on with that. And just like the seed itself, all the potential is already there, it just needs time. Thank you for your insights, friend. Miss you!

I find that if I feel really off during the day, if I can sit down and name what's bothering me, suddenly I can see the summit I need to climb to get over that thing. Names are very powerful. Great post!

Yes, exactly! Name it to tame it. It gives form and substance to anything, therefore making it something you can tackle.

I've felt a similar thrill with learning the names of plants. Great post!

Oh, thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! And yes, isn't it fun??

It might be especially thrilling to learn as an adult. It's like learning a language that I never really understood before. Especially when reading classic books, the descriptions of nature so often involve names of plants, trees, flowers, and I just kind of skimmed over those most of my life because they didn't add to my envisioning the scenes. Now I read things, and I'm like, Oh yes! I know these plants! And it aids my own descriptions of course, because I am not limited to "a field of pretty little yellow flowers."

Yes!! Absolutely! It's amazing how much detail it can add to not only your perception of the world around you but also your ability to express your experience in it. I'm trying to teach plant names to my children, and some of them are keen and others not so much haha. I think it has a real rooting affect, though. I love it! I'm trying to expand it to birds, but they are harder for me because they like to fly away before I can get a real good look. So far I've identified lazuli buntings and cedar waxwings...the rest (besides magpies and robins) are still a mystery!

Love it! I rely on a couple of my kids for bird identification. They find my ignorance amusing & eyeroll-worthy by turns. They're frustrated by my inability to recall wing shape, beak length etc if I'm trying to describe what I saw.

Oh, this made me smile. It's not fair, they have young, sharp minds! Mine are lucky if I remember to make lunch 😂

Relatable! I like to think my distractibility has contributed to "kitchen independence" in my kids.

Appreciate it! My wife likes me to keep the back mowed because of ticks and we have 2 dogs. But sometimes if the spring gets a head start, it has advantage and I just mow a LONG meandering path through it. You guys would love because of all the bugs and bees and the weeds and plants all do their thing! You could toss it to your landlord if he's ok, and would save him $!

Ah, ticks! They are not a big problem where we live right now so I forget about them sometimes. Part of me wants to move somewhere that does have them so I have an excuse to get me some guinea hens haha. My mom had some when I was a kid, and they were so ugly and so noisy, but she loved them, so now I love them. Apparently they do a great job with tick control! And oh, we would love that path! My daughter (she's not quite two) LOVES bugs. All of my children (me too) love bugs, but her especially. She's always trying to hold spiders and talk to ants and kiss worms. It would indeed save the landlord money! He's a great landlord, but also somewhat particular, so we'll do it his way for now, and we'll do it our way when we find our forever farm :)

Hey Hannah, although I'm puttering on an elliptical, I feel I'm on the trail! Great pics. I'm a fan of plants and feel I've met new acquaintances! We have a bit of a triangle yard and the back I like to let grow. . .so I can meander through a winding path I mow. It is great through a season. Thanks for that great walk along!

I love that! Our landlord has a service come mow our lawn so it's very plain and kept. My oldest (he's 8) is always frustrated; he wants a wild yard with grass as tall as him. Me too! Your path sounds delightful. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post, I'm grateful you are here!
